Munich, Germany - Host nation Germany kicked off Euro 2024 in spectacular fashion on Friday, hammering 10-man Scotland 5-1 in Munich to record the biggest opening-night win in the tournament's history.
Despite being reduced to 10 men after defender Liam Cooper was sent off in the 23rd minute, Scotland held its own for a while, conceding only a single goal in the first half. However, Germany came out firing in the second half and piled on four more goals, with Ilkay Gundogan and Jamal Musiala each scoring twice.
The win gives Germany a commanding start to the tournament, while Scotland faces an uphill battle to qualify from Group A. The Scots' next match will be against England on Tuesday, while Germany takes on the Czech Republic.
