Leverkusen Clinches Late Victory Against West Ham

Boniface's Injury-Time Header Secures Crucial Win

Thursday, April 18, 2024

Bayer Leverkusen pulled off a stunning late comeback in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal against West Ham United. Trailing 1-0 at the BayArena, Leverkusen fought back to secure a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Victor Boniface.

Frimpong, who plays as a right-back, scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute with a powerful strike from outside the box. Boniface, a striker, then sealed the win with a towering header in injury time, ensuring Leverkusen carries a valuable two-goal advantage into the second leg.

Leverkusen's victory was made even more impressive by the fact that they played most of the game with ten men after Frimpong was sent off in the 65th minute for a second bookable offense.

The German side now heads into the second leg at the London Stadium on April 25 with a significant advantage. West Ham will need to score at least twice to have any chance of progressing to the semifinals.
